| MOCAK acting director outlines priorities after leadership change |

Kuźma said his immediate focus will be on restoring a constructive working atmosphere inside the museum

KRAKOW.- Following the dismissal of MOCAK director Adam Budak, newly appointed acting director Grzegorz Kuźma has outlined a series of priorities aimed at stabilizing the Museum of Contemporary Art in Kraków and guiding the institution through what he described as current organisational challenges.
In a statement issued in Kraków, Kuźma said his immediate focus will be on restoring a constructive working atmosphere inside the museum, strengthening financial stability, and rebuilding cooperation with cultural partners and the wider museum community.
Kuźma said one of his first responsibilities will be to create conditions that allow MOCAK to continue operating at the highest level while addressing internal difficulties in a way that does not harm staff or visitors. He emphasized that the museums future work should be shaped by mutual respect, cooperation and a clearer sense of purpose for employees.
A key part of that effort, he said, will be the creation of a more transparent decision-making process and an organisational action plan in which staff members understand their responsibilities, goals and role within the institution.
Financial oversight will also be central to his mandate. Kuźma said the museum must assess whether individual elements of its programme can be carried out within the existing budget and adapt its activities to its financial, organisational and staffing capabilities. At the same time, he stressed the importance of maintaining proper care for the artworks entrusted to the museum.
The acting director also pointed to the need for a closer evaluation of MOCAKs exhibition-related programming, educational activities, workshops, events and publications. These, he said, should respond to the actual needs and expectations of audiences while adapting to changing visitor profiles and cultural trends.
Kuźma added that the museum intends to provide regular and reliable updates on the implementation of its programme, as well as reports analysing how its activities affect visitor numbers.
Another priority will be rebuilding and expanding cooperation with other cultural institutions. Kuźma called for dialogue based on openness, mutual trust and respect for different perspectives, describing the museum as a shared asset that should serve artists, staff, organisers and visitors alike.
In his statement, Kuźma thanked Kraków Mayor Aleksander Miszalski, city councillors, the Department of Culture and City Council leadership, and the Mayors Representative for Equality Policy for what he described as a swift response and decisions made in the interest of the museums team and the institution.
My ambition is to rebuild a community around the Museum based on the belief that art is a common good, Kuźma said, presenting a vision of MOCAK as a welcoming and accessible institution with a programme of high artistic quality and a commitment to social dialogue.
Kuźma closed his statement by asking for kindness and support as the museum enters its next chapter under temporary leadership.
