LONDON, ENGLAND.- Some of the leading figureheads, originators, commentators and cultural representatives reflecting today’s society have offered their ‘Vision of Tomorrow’ for a distinctive new collective project, giving an insight into their perception of our future.

The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) and Sony Ericsson have collaborated to commission significant and breakthrough names of 2007; spanning visual arts, film, photography, architecture, design, fashion, literature, politics, science, sport and entertainment – to capture a snapshot of the future for the innovative project All Tomorrow’s Pictures - part of the ICA’s celebrations for its 60th anniversary.

Established names, from Samantha Morton, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Don Letts, Beth Ditto, Gareth Pugh, Miranda Sawyer, Hot Chip, Jon Snow, The Dirty Three and Graham Coxon are joined by emerging stars such as Mika, Idris Khan, Steven Hall, Dan Holdsworth, Catherine Banner and Conrad Shawcross – with the 60th contributor chosen via a public competition judged by Alison Jackson and Bloc Party’s Gordon Moakes.

The brief invited each individual to submit a visual statement broadly based upon their vision of the future within an image or series of images taken on the state-of-the-art Sony Ericsson K800i, with the results collated into a luxury hardback book, Gala Auction launch on 30 May and exhibition at the ICA until 8 June.

Talented young fashion designer Christopher Kane commented: "I always carry a digital camera with me to capture inspiration on the run or just for fun. I've never used a camera phone before though, so it was very interesting to have the technology to forward pictures to friends and my sister.

“My ideas for the future came from my love for crystals and the magnifying qualities they have. I wanted to capture perfection using the crystal to magnify and multiply the faces of women I consider beautiful and perfect. For me the future means coming of age and in that sense perfecting my work in many different magnified levels.

“The ICA are always working towards the new and striving for perfection in the future of the arts...which in turn fuels my works."

Jon Snow, veteran broadcaster said: “My experience in photographing a vision of the future is very challenging; this is a time when we wonder what of today we shall have to sacrifice to safeguard tomorrow…. a time when we don’t entirely know where technology will take us.

“For this project, I went on a journey from the plants in my garden to the technology in my studio at work and thence by rail to Leeds and I found all life redeploying old technology like railways to safeguard our future from demolition by the combustion engine in the car.”

Talented British musician Corinne Bailey Rae remarked: "Imagining tomorrow and what it will bring to us is intriguing. It has been a pleasure to take part in the ICA project to dream into the future. Technology's ability to capture the immediacy of our vision whenever and wherever we are is a powerful tool. I feel honoured to be part of a project in which so many contributors involved in shaping today will be looking at the collective future - a great snapshot of society of our time."

Veteran artist Peter Blake commented: “I took my photograph in the garden of my house. The first signs of spring were appearing there. This surge of new life immediately suggested some kind of hope for tomorrow. This fitted perfectly for the All Tomorrow’s Pictures project.”
