In February 2026, the group exhibition Inside the Art Matrices, produced by the international art platform Arklink and co-curated with the Happy Matrix curatorial team, opened at Indra Gallery in Londons Old Street art district. As part of Arklinks ongoing curatorial programme in London, the exhibition introduces the concept of the matrix as a curatorial framework, exploring how spatial structures and audience movement can shape the experience of contemporary art.
Opening on 22 February, the exhibition brings together twenty artists from across the globe. Working across painting, installation and moving image, the participating artists present a wide range of artistic approaches that intersect within a shared spatial system. Artists featured in the exhibition include Atupei, Bailiang Chen, Chengming Xing, Fanbo Meng, Haoxin Liang, Jes Chen, Jie Shuai, Jin Xie, Jinrui Liao, Yahan Wu, Yanjie Gao, Yao Zhang, Yicheng Liang, Yifu Ruan, Yuanshen Yang, Yuan Xu, Yujun Lu, Zexuan Zeng, Zhan Shu and Zeus Li.
Rather than grouping artworks according to theme or medium, Inside the Art Matrices structures the exhibition space through four perceptual dimensions: Aesthetics, Meaning, Attraction and Creativity. This curatorial framework encourages visitors to move through the exhibition in their own way, forming individual viewing paths shaped by curiosity and personal interpretation.
The opening evening attracted artists, curators, collectors and professionals from across Londons creative industries. During its exhibition period, the project continued to generate discussion and engagement, becoming one of the more notable experimental exhibitions within Londons emerging young art scene this season.
The definition of the matrix originates from mathematical models used to describe spatial relationships and transformations. Within the exhibition, the concept is reinterpreted as a method for organising artistic experience. By moving away from linear narratives and predetermined viewing routes, the exhibition invites visitors to actively participate in the formation of the exhibitions meaning. As audiences move through the spacepausing, choosing and navigating their own pathsthe matrix becomes a dynamic structure that evolves through acts of viewing.
Operating between London and a wider international art network, Arklink continues to explore how contemporary art can circulate and be experienced within cross-cultural contexts. The exhibition reflects Arklinks ongoing interest in treating exhibitions as designed systems, where spatial organisation, audience movement and artistic production intersect.
Within its structured spatial framework, Inside the Art Matrices balances order with openness. While the matrix provides a clear organisational logic, it simultaneously allows room for uncertainty and interpretation. As each visitor navigates the exhibition differently, the experience continually shifts, transforming viewing into a creative process in itself.
