Tiffany Shlain continues a national tour of her celebrated moveable monument sculpture Dendrofemonology: A Feminist History Tree Ring, which began with an installation on the National Mall in 2023 and has traveled widely across the country. In 2026, the tour kicks into gear in this key midterm year, traveling to landmark sites across the United States. The tour begins in Seneca Falls, New York, the birthplace of the American women’s rights movement on May 8, 2026 at
Right to Run, and culminates in Texas ahead of the midterm elections. At a moment when discourse is polarized and women’s rights and climate justice are imperiled, Shlain’s work has repeatedly brought leaders together to facilitate conversation and connection; and imbuing the spaces they inhabit with joy and the possibility for a newly imagined future.
“My work continues to look at the interdependence of women’s history, ecology, and the future,” states Shlain. “In a year when so much is at stake, we will bring together art and action at historic and meaningful sites across the country, creating opportunities to amplify a nonpartisan movement to insist on equal rights and protecting our planet. Art is a bridge. Women’s rights are a bridge.”
DENDROFEMONOLOGY: A FEMINIST HISTORY TREE RING
Dendrofemonology: A Feminist History Tree Ring is a 65-inch reclaimed deodar cedar wood sculpture that offers a timeline of humanity through a feminist lens, mapped against the concept of trees bearing witness to history, as a new kind of monument for the 21st century that by its very nature, being made from wood and not granite, will change and evolve. The sculpture explores an important narrative about where we started as a feminist culture, how far we’ve come, and how far we still have left to go. The timeline starts 50,000 years ago, with text burned onto the tree ring documenting how society has gone from women having power in ancient civilizations to the spread of patriarchy, women securing the right to vote, and the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022. The last entry on the timeline is “Today:” serving as both an invitation to take action and a reminder that what we do today will influence what’s recorded next.
A moveable monument by design, Dendrofemonology embodies a philosophy of adaptability, community, and universality that aims to inspire, educate, and galvanize the continued fight for gender equality while memorializing the push and pull of women’s progress. Previous installations include the National Mall in Washington D.C, where its 2023 debut installation on included a program featuring Wonder Woman’s Lynda Carter, #MeToo founder Tarana Burke, activist Dolores Huerta, and TV host Padma Lakshmi; Madison Square Park in New York City; 21c Museum in St. Louis, Missouri; and San Francisco each serving as a catalyst for community action and civic conversation. The di Rosa exhibition featured a keynote event with Speaker Emerita of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.
2026 TOUR

The tour opens at the 10th Annual Right to Run Weekend Celebration in Seneca Falls, New York, the birthplace of the American women’s rights movement and home of the Women’s Rights National Historical Park, where the 1848 Seneca Falls Women’s Rights Convention was held. Shlain has been invited by Right to Run as keynote speaker and to deliver the opening address at the historic Wesleyan Chapel. Dendrofemonology is designed to be experienced in the very place where that history was made, the installation conceived as both a work of art and an act of witness. The weekend will also include a book reading and signing with Shlain for her national bestselling book 24/6: Giving up Screens One Day a Week to Get More Time, Creativity, and Connection and author Lauren Schiller with her book It's a Good Day to Change the World: Inspiration and Advice for a Feminist Future, wellness workshops, local food and Finger Lakes wine and craft beer vendors, and the signature Right to Run 5K/19K race along a course marked by historic women’s rights landmarks.
The permit to install Dendrofemonology at the Women’s Rights National Historical Park was initially delayed by Executive Order 14253, Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History, which mandated federal review of all new interpretive content on National Park Service grounds. Following swift intervention by Senator Chuck Schumer and Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, the National Park Service approved the permit in time for the Mother’s Day weekend celebration.

When I heard this beloved celebration was under threat because of a Trump executive order, I immediately called on the National Park Service to cut the red tape and approve these permits,” said Senator Schumer. “I’m proud to hear the NPS has heeded my calls in record time, and now the Seneca Falls celebration can continue as planned. Now families and athletes from across the country will be able to gather in beautiful Seneca Falls to celebrate the area’s significant role in American history this Mother’s Day Weekend.”

Following the Right to Run celebration, Dendrofemonology will move to the National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, where it will be on view from May 10 through August 2026. Housed in the historic Knitting Mill building in the heart of Seneca Falls, the Hall of Fame honors the women who have shaped the nation, sparking a resonant dialogue with Dendrofemonology, which charts the history of humanity through a feminist lens and underscoring how women have shaped world history.

The tour then goes to Texas, with an aim to spark conversation and connection while underscoring the critical issues on the ballot, timed to coincide with the 2026 midterm elections. The Texas installation brings Dendrofemonology to the electorate at the moment it matters most, making the case that feminist history and women’s rights are not regional concerns but American ones.
With each progressive installation, Shlain continues to contextualize the present moment within a greater understanding of feminist and natural history and inspire visitors to expand their vision of possibilities for the future: imagining a woman elected president of the United States, the Equal Rights Amendment finally passed by Congress, and reproductive rights ensured for all under the Constitution.

Tiffany Shlain is an interdisciplinary artist, activist, Emmy-nominated filmmaker, national bestselling author, and the founder of the Webby Awards. Shlain’s practice spans sculpture, film, writing, and public activation, exploring the intersection of feminism, philosophy, technology, neuroscience, and nature. Shlain’s work has been shown at The Museum of Modern Art, the de Young Museum of Fine Art, the Sundance Film Festival, and US embassies globally. Her awards and distinctions include selection by the Albert Einstein Foundation for their Genius100 list, the Neil Postman Award for Career Achievement in Intellectual Activity, and inclusion on NPR’s list of best commencement speeches.
