NEW YORK, NY.- Peter Freeman, Inc. presents 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, a group exhibition with sculptures and drawings by Walter De Maria, Jasper Marsalis, Park McArthur, and Sung Tieu.

The show’s title comes from the work by De Maria, which comprises nine stainless steel polygonal rods that are each either 5-, 7-, 9-, 11-, or 13-sided. Though their approaches differ, each artist’s work references systems of measurement and mechanisms of control, whether musical, mathematical, or spatial. Centering on themes of causality and performance, the selection of works allows for the reexamination of the personal and social structures that inform everyday experiences.

All four artists have incorporated sound into their practice at some point. This connection is underscored with a sound piece program presented during the course of the exhibition.

Walter De Maria (b. 1935, Albany, California; d. 2013, Los Angeles) has work in numerous public collections including The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Menil Collection, Houston; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; and Centre Pompidou, Paris. Two of his nine permanent installations commissioned and maintained by the Dia Foundation, The Broken Kilometer at 393 West Broadway, New York (1979) and The New York Earth Room at 141 Wooster Street, New York (1977), are within short walking distance of Peter Freeman, Inc.

Jasper Marsalis (b. 1995, Los Angeles) had recent solo exhibitions at Aspen Art Museum, Colorado (2025) and Midway Contemporary Art, Minneapolis (2020), as well as a group show at Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2025). As a musician, Marsalis performs under the moniker Slauson Malone 1 with recent performances at Haus der Kunst, Munich (2025); Bourse de Commerce, Paris (2024); and Park Avenue Armory, New York (2024). He will open a solo show at Chisenhale Gallery, London in July 2026.

Park McArthur (b. 1984, Raleigh, North Carolina) recently published a book as part of her solo exhibition Contact M at Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach, Germany, and mumok, Vienna (2025). Her work is in the public collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois; and Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh. With Jennifer Burris, McArthur is a contributor on the work of American artist Beverly Buchanan to the 61st Venice Biennale catalogue. In July, McArthur will open a two-person exhibition at Incurva, Trapani, Italy with Jason Hirata.

Sung Tieu (b. 1987, Hai Duong, Vietnam) has work currently on view at the 82nd Whitney Biennial in New York until 23 August, and in May she will represent Germany in the 61st Venice Biennale. Recent solo exhibitions include Kunsthalle Bern, Switzerland (2025); KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2025); and Kunst Museum Winterthur, Switzerland (2023). She is represented in the public collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois; Harvard Art Museums, Cambridge, Massachusetts; Nationalgalerie, Berlin; and Tate, London.
