Beyond the booth: MEGA Art Fair redefines the exhibition format in Milan

MILAN.- From 15 to 25 April 2026, Milan will host the third edition of MEGA Art Fair at SPAZIO PROFUMO, the former Esperis perfume factory at Via Binda 29, in the Navigli district. For ten days, between Milano Art Week and Design Week, this iconic site of Milan’s industrial heritage transforms into a platform dedicated to contemporary art.

Open until late in the evening, MEGA Art Fair offers an accessible and inclusive experience that expands the audience of traditional fairs, establishing itself as one of the most experimental formats in the contemporary art scene.

Founded in 2023 by BeAdvisors Art Department and Mattia Pozzoni Art Advisory, MEGA Art Fair is a nomadic curatorial project based in Milan. It functions as a living platform—a conversation in progress that renews itself with each edition: a place where art, ideas, and people meet along ever-changing, often unexpected trajectories.

Over time, MEGA has also become an implicit motto—“Let’s make every year more Mega!”—and at the same time a challenge: moving beyond the invitation to something merely “big,” its focus is on a “more”: more voices, more layers of interpretation, more opportunities for connection.

More than a fair, MEGA defines itself as a dynamic platform, capable of activating contexts and communities, and of continually redefining the ways in which artistic production, ideas, and audiences come together.

Each edition takes shape in a revitalized urban space, activating sites of industrial or architectural heritage and establishing a direct dialogue with their historical and social context.

This site-specific approach grounds the fair within the city’s cultural fabric, transforming it into an event in constant evolution.

The venue selected for the 2026 edition, SPAZIO PROFUMO, is a former factory built in the 1950s that retains the charm of Milanese industrial architecture. Its spacious halls, punctuated by columns and original architectural details, create a striking setting for the exhibition, while a large outdoor area expands the fair experience by providing a space for gathering and social interaction.

MEGA stands out for its hybrid format, where exhibition, fair, and public program converge into a single curatorial experience. Works are presented within a collective exhibition layout that moves beyond the traditional division into booths, fostering dialogue among galleries, artists, curators, publishers, collectors, and audiences. This approach encourages exchange between practices and disciplines, emphasizing experimentation and the building of lasting relationships.

The 2026 edition unfolds across multiple exhibition rooms and large halls, complemented by semi-open areas dedicated to site-specific projects and widespread curatorial interventions. The public program includes talks, independent publishing, workshops, performances, music, and cinema, transforming the fair into a dynamic platform for exchange and discovery. A selection of on-site restaurants and bars further enhances the visitor experience. A program of awards and acquisitions underscores MEGA’s commitment to supporting emerging artists, including the Because of Many Suns – Collezione Taurisano Acquisition Prize and the Premio Collezione Edoardo Barboni.

MEGA consolidates its identity as a space for exchange, support, and growth through collaborations with institutions, collections, and cultural partners, such as: ReContemporary, Collezione Maramotti, The Art Society, Fondazione Giuseppe Iannaccone, Progetto Ludovico, Spazio Almag/Umberta Gnutti Beretta Collection, Fondazione Elpis, Camera della Moda Fashion Trust, Fondazione Imago Mundi, Casa Aemilia, Collezione Galotti, SKIRA, Collezione De Iorio, SmartStamp, Artquire, Artsvp, Pareidolia Foundation, IKT – International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art, PLOP Residency, POUSH, U-ART-P, and Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera.

The fair as a social and cultural hub

The heart of MEGA is the Main Section, where exhibitors present works within a curated collective exhibition or in individual or shared spaces developed in dialogue with the artistic direction. The entire layout is conceived as a unified environment, capable of fostering relationships between diverse practices and generating lasting connections. The 2026 edition brings together 31 exhibitors from Europe, Latin America, and Asia, including Seventeen Gallery, Copperfield, Des Bains, XXijra Hii, and Studio Chapple (London); L.U.P.O Lorenzelli Projects (Milan); Galerie Droste (Düsseldorf, Paris, and Berlin), Capsule (Shanghai); Repetto Gallery (Lugano), Third Born (Mexico City); Romero Paprocki (Paris/Milan); Coral (Miami); Cable Depot (Sofia); and FUGA, Dilalica, Ethall, and Palmadoze (Barcelona).

The Video Programme is one of the fair’s core components, featuring a selection of filmic and time-based works presented by galleries and institutions in a dedicated space. This initiative expands the temporal and immersive dimension of the exhibition experience, enriching the way it is enjoyed.

One of the main curatorial sections of the 2026 edition is City of Glass. Inspired by Paul Auster’s novel of the same name, the section interprets the city as a living organism and a layered system of relationships, identities, and narratives, bringing together works from public and private collections, foundations, and cultural partners, and placing them in dialogue with contemporary practices. The result is a porous, multi-layered exhibition that reflects on urban identity, memory, and collective experience.

Another section, developed in collaboration with Harlesden High Street, features a selection of international galleries and curatorial projects united by experimental and research-oriented approaches, adding an additional layer of dialogue within the collective layout.

A program that activates the space

Within the fair, a Book & Magazines Corner brings together independent and academic publishing, magazines, and artist editions, creating a space dedicated to editorial practices and printed production.

The Public Programme is a central component of the fair: talks, performances, screenings, dinners, and evening events continuously activate the space, extending opening hours and engaging diverse audiences. In this way, MEGA functions not only as an exhibition platform but as a true social and cultural infrastructure.

Every evening, MEGA also hosts a Supper Club for 40 guests, organized by 926dot1. Designed as an extension of the venue’s identity, each menu explores the composition of ingredients as if they were notes of a perfume, creating a sensory experience that echoes PROFUMO’s history and expands the fair into the realms of taste, social interaction, and conviviality.
