GLEN COVE, NY.- Roland Auctions NY has just broken their house record with the highest-selling work of art in the auction house’s history, coming close to the half-million dollar mark. At Roland’s “Important Art and Jewelry Auction” on March 28th, 2026 they sold the newly discovered prime-period “metascape” painting by highly acclaimed Indian Modernist painter Akbar Padamsee (1928 – 2020) for $481,000 to a buyer in India. This sale culminates the growing prominence of Modern and Contemporary Art at Roland Auctions NY over the last few years, with art sales topping many of their auctions.

The much-anticipated Akbar Padamsee (India, 1928-2020) is an abstract cityscape oil on canvas, 1962, in yellows, oranges, and browns, with impasto details, in gold leaf frame, signed Padamsee to lower right with 62. It had come from the estate of Elizabeth Debevoise Healy and was tucked away in a sprawling East Side Manhattan apartment for the last 60 years. Padamsee was one of the pioneers and stalwarts of Indian modern art, going to live in Paris from his native Mumbai in the early 1950’s.

Along with the Padamsee, coming from the same estate, the always impressive other art offerings at Roland included an Ernst Willhelm Nay Nay (German, 1903-1968) Abstract Watercolor on hard stock paper. Untitled abstract work of colorful circles and other shapes. Signed and dated lower right. Front has a light tan finish on paper, which sold for $48,750.


Korean Joseon Ink on Silk Landscape in a Scroll. . Sold for $22,100.

Also in celebration of Asia Week New York all last week, a Korean Joseon Ink on Silk Landscape in a Scroll. Korean hanging scroll, ink on silk, Chung Sun (Kyum-jae), in the manner of 19th century, depicting a mountainous landscape, signed "Gyeomjae" and two seals upper left, storage box with inscription on top. Provenance: Private Collection, New York, sold for $22,100, an Antique Sri Lankan Bronze Standing Buddha, Antique Sri Lankan Bronze Standing Buddha, 18th/19th Century, with headdress and open elongated earrings, right hand raised, a nicely striated detailed robe, standing on a self plinth rounded pedestal stand. Fine details on back as well, sold for $2925 and a Gilt Bronze Liao Maitreya Bodhisattva with Stand, Chinese gilt bronze Maitreya Bodhisattva with gold and colored pigmented wood tall-handle lotus stand, Liao Dynasty, 11th century CE. [Overall: H: 43 cm; Maitreya: Intact in original condition, sold for $5850.

In the jewelry arena, a David Webb Cultured Pearl and Diamond Necklace, David Webb cultured pearl, diamond, platinum and 18K gold fringe necklace, designed as a four strand necklace centered by diamond plaque suspending a fringe of cultured pearls, the clasp joined in the front, marks to plaque and clasp "Webb Platinum 18KT", sold for $19,500, a Buccellati Citrine & Diamond Clip & Earring Set, 3 Buccellati set, Italy, 20th century, with The brooch designed as a bouquet, set with an oval citrine and rose and table-cut diamond flower surrounded by leaves, the earrings en suite, signed Buccellati Italy 750 96. [Total 19.88 dwt., Clip: 2" x 1", Earrings: 1 1/8" x .75"], went for $10,400 and a pair of Seaman Schepps Chalcedony & Sapphire Earrings, Seaman Schepps pair of carved chalcedony, cabochon sapphire and 18K white gold starfish earrings, marked Seaman Schepps maker's mark, serial number 750. [1" Diameter], went for $3,900.


Grand Tour Venetian Murano and Micromosaic Mirror. sold for $18,200.

A selection of Decorative items included a Grand Tour Venetian Murano and Micromosaic Mirror, 19th century, with alternating floral and figural cartouches comprising a scene of doves with a banner, a column with griffin capital from Saint Marks Square to left side, and San Todaro depicted to the right, over a micromosaic scene of a gondola, interspersed with elaborate floral decoration, and framed to inner and outer with etched glass panels and twisted Murano glass, which sold for $18,200, a Robert Delandre (French, 1879-1962) "Allégorie de la Vitesse" Bronze, patinated bronze sculpture titled "Allégorie de la Vitesse," signed in casting and with Chardon Bronze foundry mark, Made in France, mounted on stepped stone plinth, sold for $3900 and an Art Deco Sterling Silver Saratoga Trophy Tray, Art deco sterling silver trophy tray probably by Baltimore Silversmith Manufacturing Company (Schofield Co.), crafted with horsehead handles, the center engraved "The Eastern Horse Club Hunters Steeplechase Saratoga, New York August 23rd 1929 Plate Presented by the Eastern Horse Club won by Mr. T. Hitchcock's Louesor", marks to reverse "Sterling 925/1000 Fine. [74.5 ozt., 3.5" H x 25" L x 14.5" W]. Sold for $7800.


Art Deco Sterling Silver Saratoga Trophy Tray, Sold for $7800.

A beautiful Pair of Louis XVI Carved & Gilt Marble Top Consoles, 19th century, with floral chrysanthemum carved apron and gilt details, on fluted legs, and with book matched marble tops, sold for $11,700, while an Italian Neoclassical Console Table, 19th Century, possibly Venetian; monumental console table with four mirror panel accented with carved parcel gilt and marble-painted details, sold for $4875.
