SHANGHAI.- CHERUBY announces the 2026 residency and exhibition programme. 2026 exhibition programme

Bárbara Sánchez-Kane: Coro de Soles Menores

Until March 31, 2026

As the inaugural artist-in-residence at CHERUBY, Mexico City–based artist Bárbara Sánchez-Kane’s exhibition Coro de Soles Menores (Chorus of the Minor Suns) continues until March 31 with a closing programme on March 29. The exhibition marks the launch of CHERUBY’s physical space as a site for experimentation, research, and dialogue. Sánchez-Kane deflects the readymade, reshapes what it means to create from the body, while reclaiming clothing as an emotional and political language. Trained in engineering and fashion, his practice moves fluidly across mediums: fashion, painting, sculpture, performance, and spatial intervention become porous terrains through which he ridicules the aesthetics of authority and questions how identities are embodied and undone. Coro de Soles Menores presents an entirely new body of work that tilts away from disciplinary dominance—whether fashion or art—toward something more tender and insurgent. Sánchez-Kane asks, “How do we tilt within existing systems to envision a better place, rather than remain in collapse?”

A Pop-up of A Pop-up
June-September, 2026

A Pop-up of A Pop-up is a summer local community activation that embraces the form of a pop-up with questions concerning temporality, spontaneity, urgency, exclusivity, alertness, and collectivity. The exhibition is presented as a series of Events, hosting the bootleg Chaoshan nomadic theatre: Dongcun Xinfu Experimental Theatre; the creative studio Same Paper, which publishes the photography magazine Closing Ceremony and ran the gallery I Don’t Have Suit; CHERUBY’s 2026 local associate, Zhao Chenxi, who is pivoting from his fashion brand fabric qorn—known for embracing and humorously reclaiming styles often deemed tasteless or unfashionable.

Tanat Teeradakorn
