HONG KONG.- M+ presents M+ Sigg Collection: Inner Worlds exhibition. Inner Worlds highlights the diversity and breadth of contemporary Chinese art from the mid-1990s to the 2010s.

The third exhibition of the M+ Sigg Collection builds upon previous groundbreaking editions: M+ Sigg Collection: From Revolution to Globalisation (2021–2023) and M+ Sigg Collection: Another Story (2023–2025). M+ Sigg Collection: Inner Worlds offers an in-depth perspective on the collection and contemporary Chinese art by highlighting key artists and trends. This new exhibition shifts the focus inwards, tracing artists’ emotional journeys amid profound social transformation.

The time between the mid-1990s and 2010s saw China experiencing rapid globalisation and economic transformation, significantly influencing people’s attitudes and values. Chinese artists became regular participants in international exhibitions, actively contributing to global art conversations. Art from this period reflects their responses to societal changes and the profound impact of these transformations on their lived experiences.

Inner Worlds examines the art of this era through the lens of emotional expression. Featuring thirty-eight artists, including Chen Guangwu, Chu Yun, Duan Jianyu, Fang Lijun, Hu Xiaoyuan, Liang Yuanwei, Liu Wei, Liu Ye, Qiu Shihua, Shang Yang, Wang Jin, Yangjiang Group, Yue Minjun and Zhao Bandi, the exhibition conveys a spectrum of emotions—joy, sadness, calm, anxiety, doubt, and wonder. Their works resonate with the evolving narrative of a changing nation, creating works that spark emotional connections with its audience.

M+ Sigg Collection: Inner Worlds is co-curated by Dr Wu Mo (Sigg Curator, M+) and Dr Uli Sigg, supported by Ariadne Long (Associate Curator, Visual Art, M+) and Mankit Lai (Curatorial Assistant, M+)
