NEW YORK.- Keeling Wainwright Associates is pleased to announce that The National Black Fine Art Show, the only fine art fair in the world showcasing original artwork by African, African American and Caribbean artists, will be held February 14, 2007 at the Puck Building in SoHo, NYC. The show will feature 38 of the finest international exhibitors with work ranging from 19th century to contemporary, including: paintings, photography, limited edition prints, sculpture, outsider art, mixed media and works on paper. All artwork will be for sale.
The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture will return as the beneficiary of the Preview Party on Wednesday evening, January 31, 2007. The Schomburg Center is the worlds leading research library devoted exclusively to documenting the history and cultural development of peoples of African descent throughout the world.
Among the many exceptional offerings at the show this year will be: M. Hanks Gallery (Santa Monica, CA) will offer rarely seen bronze sculptures by Meta Fuller, the only African American artist to study under August Rodin. Fuller is considered one of the most important figures in the history of African American art and culture. Renowned scholar, curator and collector, David Driskell, said that her seminal work Ethiopia Awakening of 1915 foreshadowed the Harlem Renaissance. Sande Webster Gallery (Philadelphia, PA) will present works by Eric Mack, James Brantley, Charles Searles and Moe Brooker. The Art in Embassies Program recently chose work by Eric Mack and James Brantley for the embassy in Sierra Leone and work by Charles Searles was chosen for Togos embassy. Jubilee Fine Art (Hartford, CT) will feature an exceptional bronze bust, Head of Man by painter and sculptor Elizabeth Catlett. Catletts art combines elements of African traditions with those of pre-Colombian and African-American cultures. Elizabeth Catlett was born in 1915, studied at Howard University with Lois Mailou Jones, Professor James A. Porter and Dr. Alain Leroy Locke. In 1947, she decided to build a life in Mexico after having enough of United States segregationist and racist attitudes.
