HERFORD.- As a museum of contemporary art with a focus on design and architecture, Marta Herford provides a platform for critical engagement with art and contemporary social issues. The museum encourages dialogue across architecture, applied art and fine art, while maintaining a clear focus on contemporary fine art within its programme. The programme features internationally renowned contemporary artists, presented in regularly changing solo and group exhibitions that address socially relevant themes and foster critical discourse in the form of spacious stagings and socially relevant stances. Exhibitions are conceived as multisensory experiences that engage in dialogue with the museum`s distinctive architecture, designed by Frank Gehry.
Marta Herford understands itself as an inclusive museum that addresses diverse audiences and perspectives. Through its exhibitions, events and educational programmes, the museum seeks to make art and culture accessible as vital and relevant aspects of everyday life. It serves equally as a social space of learing beyond formal education, a site of participation and an individual museum experience.
Marta Herford gGmbH is seeking to hire as soon as possible a Curator (m/f/nb), full time.
Responsibilities
The range of tasks are essentially as follows:
Conceiving and organising exhibitions in keeping with the Martas positioning as a museum. Supporting the director in implementing all the institutions artistic programmes, especially the exhibition programme.
Scholarly conception of and responsibility for producing accompanying publications and exhibition texts (digital and analogue) of the museums exhibitions, projects etc.
Exchanging information and reliably communicating with the Marta team (the departments: exhibition production, education and outreach, press and public relations, administration, events team and visitor services), with the press, including experts, Marta Friends & Supporters and various cooperation partners.
Accompanying invited artists in the realisation of their exhibitions, maintaining contacts with the regional, national and international art scene(s).
Representing the director in political and especially expert committees.
Profile/Requirements
Completed university degree in art history, art studies, cultural studies, curatorial studies, museology/museum sciences or a comparable field with Masters degree or equivalent.
Several years of relevant experience in independently developing and realising projects in the field of contemporary art, experience with publications, well-grounded knowledge of international contemporary art and a broad professional network.
Very good knowledge of German, English and optionally other languages.
Experience in obtaining third-party funding and ideally exhibition-related sponsoring.
Willingness to live and work nearby.
