MARRAKECH.- An unmissable event for art enthusiasts, the 7th edition of A Moroccan Winter will take place on December 30th, 2025 at La Mamounia. This exceptional sale will unfold across two chapters: Majorelle & His Contemporaries, highlighting three major works by Majorelle, Roubtzoff and Dubois, tracing an artistic journey from Morocco to Tunisia; and Moroccan & African Spirit, offering a rich panorama of Moroccan, African and Middle Eastern creation. This section will notably spotlight three emblematic women artists—Chaibia, Baya and Mona Saudi—as well as a group dedicated to sculpture, featuring works by César, Hiquily, Tayou and Ndary Lo, alongside pieces by Belkahia, Melehi, Cherkaoui, Glaoui, Aboudia and Togo.

On this occasion, Artcurial will present a remarkable selection of works from private collections, several of which will appear on the market for the very first time.

Jacques Majorelle will be represented by five works, including Souk in Marrakech (circa 1936–1937), estimated at €300,000–400,000 (MAD 3,200,000–5,000,000).

Fascinated by Tunisia, where he settled from 1914 onwards, Alexandre Roubtzoff exhibited The Mausoleum of Sidi Abdallah (1932) at the Salon des Indépendants in 1933. Estimated at €120,000–150,000 (MAD 1,320,000–1,650,000), the work stands out for its impressive scale and the subtlety of its treatment of light.

A majestic work by Paul-Élie Dubois will also be offered for sale. Influenced by the Nabis and Symbolist movements, the artist presented Le Cortège blanc at the Salon d’Automne in 1927. Estimated at €80,000–120,000 (MAD 880,000–1,320,000), this work, preserved within the artist’s family, will be appearing at auction for the very first time.

Two major works by Farid Belkahia, from an important Moroccan collection, will be offered at auction. Previously shown in La Dérive des Continents, exhibited at the Institut du Monde Arabe in 2005, they are estimated at €110,000–170,000 (MAD 1,200,000–1,800,000).

Also coming under the hammer is What’s Your Name No. 3 (2004) by Barthélémy Toguo, from the artist’s celebrated “playing cards” series, estimated at €15,000–20,000 (MAD 165,000–220,000).

A remarkable work by Mona Saudi will be offered for sale. A Jordanian-born sculptor who lived and worked in Beirut before settling in Paris, Mona Saudi co-organised the major international exhibition in support of Palestine in Beirut in 1978. In 1973, she created Naissance, which she exhibited the following year at the Musée Rodin. Measuring 121 cm and preserved for more than 45 years in a private collection, this sculpture is estimated at €80,000–120,000 (MAD 880,000–1,320,000).

Three works by Chaibia Talal will also be up for sale. Drawing inspiration from the inhabitants of traditional Moroccan villages, the artist notably captured this spirit in L’Artisan (1988), estimated at €20,000–30,000 (MAD 220,000–330,000).

This December session will present for the first time at La Mamounia, a dedicated selection of sculptures.

From the 1950s onwards, César developed an entire bestiary in which chickens became recurring subjects. With Rosine, created in 1991, the artist employed the technique of welded bronze combined with metal elements. This sculpture is estimated at €40,000–60,000 (MAD 440,000–660,000).

Renowned for his mobiles, automata and “hiquilybristes,” Philippe Hiquily explores, in Girouette d’été, a stylised human form whose elements rotate around their axis in a state of near weightlessness. This steel work, created in 2013, is estimated at €40,000–60,000 (MAD 440,000–660,000).
