The sale was 92% sold by lot, with a hammer price 106% above the low estimate, and close to 60% of lots sold over high estimates driven by spirited competition in-room, on the telephones, and online. The sale total marks a 15% increase year on year and is Christie's highest autumn sale for the category in Hong Kong since 2017, reflecting the thriving market for jewels.
'The Royal Blue' a necklace, adorned with 16 Kashmir 'Royal Blue' sapphires totalling 104.61 carats sold for HK$125,450,000 / US$16,191,882, breaking the world auction record for a Kashmir sapphire necklace previously set at Christie's in 2018.
