GLEN COVE, NY.- Roland Auctions NY’s November 15th, 2025 estates auction featured a spectacular rare collection with three areas of focus; Fine Art, Chinese and Asian art, and silver, including antique sculpture and decorative arts, all being the Property of and benefiting Columbia University in New York City. Also offered in the collection was Silverplate by Puiforcat & Christofle, Jade, Baccarat and others.


Indian carved sandstone figure of a dancing Ganesha, Sold for $21,450.

A series of top sellers, all from the collection from Columbia University, include the top seller of the day, a Carved Pala Period Blackstone Stele Relief, Carved Pala Period Blackstone stele relief, Indian, depicting Shiva and Uma surrounded by figural decoration and seated on a lotus form base, with a Yaksha to lower, mounted on a wooden base. [Excluding base: 30" H x 16" W x 6" D], which sold for $58,500, an Indian Carved Sandstone Figure of Dancing Ganesha, an Indian carved sandstone figure of a dancing Ganesha, Rajasthan or Madhya Pradesh, with a carved sacred thread, two figures at upper, likely Riddhi and Siddhi, and two figures at base, likely music playing Ganas, on a later wooden base, going for $21,450 and a Khmer Baphuon Style Carved Sandstone of Uma. Style Carved Sandstone of Uma, Khmer Baphuon style Hindu sculpture of Uma, modern day Cambodia, wearing a Baphuon style sampot and headdress, on a later base, selling for $12, 350.

Other highly notable items from the Columbia University collection were a Regency Mahogany & Specimen Marble Center Table, Regency mahogany and specimen marble top center table, late 19th century, the specimen marble top retained by a carved gadrooned border, raise on a tripanel standard continuing conforming platform terminating with acanthus carved legs. which sold for $10,400 and a Chinese Intricately Carved Jade Scholar's Object, Chinese Qing Dynasty, circa 19th century, intricately carved scholar's object, possibly a scroll tube, with carved foliate, deer, and architectural decoration and a spinach jade cap to each end, on a later wooden stand. [Jade, less stand: 8.5" L x 1.5" Diameter], selling for $9,100 and a Max Bill Gilt Brass Sculpture, Max Bill (Swiss 1908-1994) "Einheit aus drei gleichen volumen" or Entity made up of three identical volumes., signed on edge of one volume "Bill 61-63", This is an edition of 5, going for $7150.


Thayaht Ernesto Michahelles Dux Art Deco Bronze. Sold for $19,500.

Decorative arts from other collections and estates included a Thayaht/Ernesto Michahelles "Dux" Art Deco Bronze. Thayaht, also known as, Ernesto Michahelles (Italian, 1893-1959), "Dux", 1929, signed Thayaht to reverse, Firenze, and dated with "Anno VII." [13" H x 8.25" W x 10" D], which sold for $19,500, an After Auguste Rodin (French, 1840–1917) "The Thinker" Bronze, signed Rodin to reverse, edition A.P. 1/4. [26" H x 16" W x 24" D], going for $11,050, and a Pair of Chinese floral decorated rice bowls on carved stands, marks to base. [Cups: 2.5" H x 4.5" Diameter], which sold for $11,700.

Prominent sellers in the art arena at Roland were a Stephen Slaughter (English, 1697-1765) attributed palatial oil on canvas portrait, circa 1750, depicting three children in a landscape around a bowl of fruit with a bird, apparently unsigned, in a carved and gilt wood frame, Provenance from Sotheby's Important Old Masters Sale, May 20, 1993, lot 213. [Framed: 68" H x 87" W], which sold for $11,700, an Aert Van der Neer (Dutch, 1603/4-1677) attrib. O/B of a Burning City, Aert Van der Neer attributed oil on board of a burning village in the evening, with the artist's cipher to center lower, marked Aert Van der Neer to lower frame, and with a woodburned signature to verso. [Work: 17.25" H x 23.5" W; framed: 24" H x 31.25" W], selling for $10,400 and a Louis Elle Ferdinand II (French, 1648-1717) Attrib. Oil on Canvas, attributed oil on canvas portrait of a woman as Diana in a frame, marked spuriously Gerrit Von Honthorst to lower frame, work apparently unsigned. [44.5" H x 34.25" W; framed: 54" H x 43" W], going for $7,150.

Also notable was a 1977 South African 1-Ounce Krugerrand coin, no visible issues, with 14K gold screw pendant frame. Frame 3.3 grams, selling for $4225 and a U.S. Liberty $50 Gold Coin, 1987, 1-Ounce, Roman numeral date, which sold for $4225. This was one of eight $50 gold coins all from 1986-1989, each selling for $4225.
