ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA.- Stroganov Palace presents Sergei Lobanov. For the first time viewers in St Petersburg acquaint with the oeuvre of Sergei Lobanov, a forgotten Moscow artist whose name is connected with the early history of the Knave of Diamonds. The exhibition presents both graphic and pictorial works by the artist of the late 1900s-early 1930s: portraits of contemporaries marked by keen psychologism, colourful Crimean landscapes, skilful nude drawings and sketches of performances in the Maly Theatre and the Bolshoi Theatre that reproduce the charming magic of stage action.
For twenty years Lobanov had combined intense creative work with the work in the field of museology being a chief curator and an academic secretary of the State Museum of New Western Painting. The exhibition is a result of collaboration between the Russian Museum and the Triumph gallery in Moscow.
