CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA.- A violent hail storm on Friday 29 December resulted in minor roof damage to the National Museum of Australias administration corridor. This caused some flooding in an access way between the Museum and the adjacent administration building. The Museum, the exhibitions and the National Collection were not affected by the hail storm. There were no injuries to visitors or staff. The Museum was closed on Saturday 30 December 2006, to assess storm damage to the administration corridor. The Museum reopened on New Year's Eve, Sunday 31 December 2006 at 9 am and has resumed normal activities.
Craddock Morton, the director of the museum said, "It's a once-in-a-blue-moon sort of occurrence, and we're hoping that it'll be another blue moon before this happens again."
