SAN CLEMENTE, CA.- Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens is proud to announce two new exhibitions now open to the public, showcasing artists whose practices are deeply rooted in nature and imagination. Journey through glowing fungi with whimsical fine art photographs by photographer Christopher Allwine with Dreamscapes and Dream States: Mushrooms on view through November 16 in the Art Gallery. Then, visit The Studio for Impressions of Place by artist-in-residence Fay Wyles, on view through November 23, featuring impressionistic paintings that capture the light and atmosphere of Southern California’s coast.

In the Art Gallery, Allwine’s Mushroom series elevates fungi into luminous dreamscapes, created entirely in-camera without digital manipulation. Mushrooms hold a symbolic place in Allwine’s oeuvre, reflecting his fascination with organic forms and their connection to growth, decay, and regeneration. By using handheld light tools during long exposures, his images blur the line between the familiar and fantastical while encouraging reflection on universal themes of connection and renewal.



Allwine’s work is especially unique due to his cinematic approach to fine art photography. Drawing inspiration from the Pacific Northwest’s forests during the pandemic, he developed a method of treating each scene like a painter’s canvas: layering light, mood, and movement in real time. The result is a body of work that feels both ethereal and grounded, transporting viewers into a world where the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

“It is an honor and a privilege to have my mushroom series featured at Casa Romantica,” said Allwine. “Considering this beautiful venue’s rich legacy of supporting the arts, I’m truly humbled to be recruited for a solo exhibition. I hope my work encourages viewers to reflect on how they treat our planet. We only get one Earth - let’s all do our part to take care of it together.”

In The Studio, Wyles’ residency exhibition evolves throughout the season, with new plein air and studio works added as originals sell. Visitors may encounter her painting live on Fridays, often joined by fellow artists, creating an interactive and ever-changing experience.




“I’m honored to be part of Casa Romantica’s new artist-in-residence program,” said Wyles. “It connects me to the local community and to such a historic and inspiring landmark right here in San Clemente. My hope is that people who encounter my work will leave with a sense of place and a reminder of the beauty that surrounds us.”

Both exhibitions debuted with opening receptions that drew more than 100 guests each, including collectors, friends, teachers, students, families, as well as members of the local San Clemente and Orange County community from surfers and lifeguards to longtime art supporters.
