DETROIT, MICH.- The Detroit Institute of Arts announced the appointment of Aubrey Knox as its new Director of Exhibitions. Knox brings fifteen years of experience leading strategy, operations, and project management, and collaborating on exhibition development in museums and design studios. She officially assumed her role on September 22.

As Director of Exhibitions, Knox will lead the development and implementation of the museum’s program of special exhibitions, permanent gallery reinstallations, and publications. She most recently served as managing director at Standard Issue, an interdisciplinary design consultancy in Brooklyn, NY, where she oversaw business operations and project strategy. Knox also held the position of senior operations manager for design at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she led strategic planning, finance, HR, administration, and exhibition operations for the Design Department for more than a decade.

“We're excited to have Aubrey join the DIA to lead our Exhibitions department,” said Jennifer Paoletti, Vice President of Exhibition and Collection Strategies. “Her expertise in exhibition development, implementation, and operations will serve the museum and its visitors well as we look to an impressive slate of upcoming exhibitions and gallery openings.”

Knox has written and spoken on the histories of art, museums, and medicine, and the way these legacies inform visitor experiences today. Her work has appeared in e-flux, Art in America, Platform, and in the volume States of Emergency: Architecture, Urbanism, and the First World War.

“I’m honored to be joining the DIA,” said Knox. “I’m looking forward to working with my team to bring exciting and innovative exhibitions to life for our visitors.”

Knox holds an M.Phil. in Art History from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York and an M.A. in Art History from Columbia University.

The DIA is proud to welcome Aubrey Knox and looks forward to her leadership in shaping the future of exhibitions at the museum.
