DETROIT, MICH.- The Detroit Institute of Arts announced the appointment of Aubrey Knox as its new Director of Exhibitions. Knox brings fifteen years of experience leading strategy, operations, and project management, and collaborating on exhibition development in museums and design studios. She officially assumed her role on September 22.
As Director of Exhibitions, Knox will lead the development and implementation of the museums program of special exhibitions, permanent gallery reinstallations, and publications. She most recently served as managing director at Standard Issue, an interdisciplinary design consultancy in Brooklyn, NY, where she oversaw business operations and project strategy. Knox also held the position of senior operations manager for design at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she led strategic planning, finance, HR, administration, and exhibition operations for the Design Department for more than a decade.

Her expertise in exhibition development, implementation, and operations will serve the museum and its visitors well as we look to an impressive slate of upcoming exhibitions and gallery openings.
Knox has written and spoken on the histories of art, museums, and medicine, and the way these legacies inform visitor experiences today. Her work has appeared in e-flux, Art in America, Platform, and in the volume States of Emergency: Architecture, Urbanism, and the First World War.

Knox holds an M.Phil. in Art History from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York and an M.A. in Art History from Columbia University.
