ATHENS.- This September, a new season begins at Onassis AiR in Athens, bringing together a new group of Fellows for a residency program focused on research, experimentation, and community exchange.
Onassis AiR, the international artistic research and residency program of the Onassis Foundation, has supported more than 200 Fellows since its launch in 2019. The program’s mission is to support artistic process and creative development by providing space and time for arts professionals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines to deepen their practice without the pressure of producing a final work.
For 2025–26, the program extends its role as a platform for experimentation and broadens its community with Onassis AiR Fellows working across an expanded range of practices. This year the program has a particular focus on practices at the intersection of design and the applied arts embracing artists who work with materials, create large-scale objects and installations, or explore immersive technologies. These directions are supported by the new facilities at Onassis Ready, a space dedicated to innovative modes of presentation and interdisciplinary research.
After receiving 2,300 applications through our Open Call, the new season welcomes 44 Onassis AiR Fellows in the fields of visual arts, sculpture, dance, film, digital art, design, writing, ceramics, fashion, curatorial studies, theater, and critical theory, among others.
Building on the successful progress of the previous year’s Fellows, the Onassis AiR Extended Research Residencies, Dramaturgy Fellowships, and AiR/ONX Fellowships continue. This year also introduces Technical Residencies, a new strand dedicated to the individuals who provide technical and production support for artistic creation. Alongside these initiatives, Onassis AiR continues its participation in European cultural networks while expanding international partnerships—strengthening both cross-border collaboration and inclusion across practices and geographies.

Throughout the season, the Onassis AiR Fellows showcase their work-in-progress during the Open Days events held once each cycle (Fall, Spring, and Summer) while they also take part in collective activities, visits and research trips, capacity-building workshops, feedback and mentoring sessions. These gatherings provide different forms of support for each participant, while sustaining the program’s spirit of community; creating an environment where individual practices and collective exchange grow side by side.
