Hard Rock Las Vegas Hosting a Virtual Art Auction

On 17 July, 2024, The Mirage permanently closed. The famous Las Vegas casino resort opened back in 1989 and paved the way for others to open along the Las Vegas Strip. Among the world’s largest hotels, The Mirage enjoyed 34 years of success before closing down as part of a rebranding effort. An upcoming auction will help keep the history of the resort alive.

When the property reopens in late 2027, it will be known as Hard Rock Las Vegas. One of the key features of the newly themed hotel will be its casino, which will have plenty of games for visitors to enjoy. Many people practise ahead of time by playing new slot games on online platforms before playing at an actual casino. This is a great way to learn the ropes and understand how slots work.

Auction Details
A total of 351 pieces will be auctioned off online, starting in September. They include many front-of-house items and objects that were on display for guests, along with some back-of-house pieces many people won’t have seen before. Around 50 statues and other types of artwork from Dale Chihuly, a well-known glass artist, are among the collection.

Many familiar pieces will feature in the auction. Some of the resort’s more iconic works of art won’t be auctioned off, however. Both the Siegfried & Roy statue and the giant archway sign will make their way to The Neon Museum for public display and preservation. Absentee bidding is currently open and will close on 19 September. Live bidding will start on 20 September at 10:00 a.m. PDT at the website LiveAuctioneers.com.

Owning a Piece of History
The auction has already attracted some bids and will surely generate a lot more interest in the run-up to the start of its live bidding. With The Mirage operating for more than three decades, there will no doubt be many fans who are willing to purchase a keepsake. The resort was home to many memorable pieces of art and other creative installations. The auction will appeal not only to fans of the resort in Vegas itself, but also art enthusiasts and collectors.

Facts About The Mirage
When The Mirage opened in 1989, it was the most expensive resort in the world with a construction cost of $680 million. It was the first mega resort on The Strip and was among the world’s largest hotels. Its success encouraged developers to build many other large casino resorts on The Strip.

Part of what made The Mirage stand out was that it offered several attractions that weren’t typical for a Vegas resort. These included an indoor tropical forest display and specially designed habitats for dolphins and even tigers. There was also a large artificial volcano at the front of the resort. It erupted multiple times throughout the night, providing spectators and passers-by with a free spectacle to watch.

Over the years, The Mirage offered a wide range of entertainment. As well as the free volcano show, there were 5,750 performances of magic shows from illusionists Siegried and Roy. The resort also played host to Love, a Cirque du Soleil show based on The Beatles that was seen by more than eight million people in its first 10 years.

Hard Rock Las Vegas
There was actually a Hard Rock-branded casino resort in Vegas from 1995 to 2020. The upcoming one, whose full name will be Hard Rock Las Vegas, will have 3,700 rooms and a casino with floor space of 174,000 square feet. Among its features will be a guitar-shaped hotel tower, which will house 675 of the 3,700 rooms, and extended pool and spa facilities. There will also be more convention space than there was previously.

In the casino, there will be around 2,000 slot machines and 212 gaming tables. Throughout the resort pieces of memorabilia will be on display, though not as many as the previous Hard Rock hotel had. The Mirage-Treasure Island Tram that connected The Mirage and Treasure Island resorts will reopen along with Hard Rock Las Vegas. It will undergo a name change and will be known as the Hard Rock-Treasure Island Tram.
