LIVERPOOL.- A new exhibition brought together by City Centre Regeneration Company, Liverpool Vision and the Northwest Regional Development Agency reveals how proposed new developments at Mann Island and the Pier Head will transform Liverpool’s world famous waterfront.

New developments worth over £200 million will turn the area into a visitor destination of international quality and create some of the most exciting public spaces in Europe.

The ‘package’ of projects includes National Museum Liverpool’s new £65m Museum of Liverpool designed by acclaimed Danish architects 3XN; Neptune and Countryside’s striking £120m mixed-use development; British Waterway’s proposals for an elegant extension to the Leeds Liverpool Canal and major new public realm improvements at the Pier Head. The new schemes have been developed to reflect the sensitive and unique nature of the site.

The exhibition includes a specially commissioned scale model of the new developments, an animated fly through, which provides a glimpse into the future and detailed information on the content and configuration of the schemes.

Together, the schemes, all of which are scheduled to start on site in early 2007, will create:

• 844 additional jobs
• 58,461 sq m of new floor space
• 1,250,000 visitors per annum
• increased tourism expenditure of £13m per annum

Liverpool Vision’s Chief Executive, Jim Gill says: “We’re beginning to see a very positive change on the city’s waterfront. Kings Waterfront is becoming a reality, with the new arena and convention centre, and Princes Dock is becoming one of Liverpool’s most attractive business and leisure locations.”

“Although the Pier Head and Mann Island present the city’s image to the rest of the world, the area is one of the city’s most under-used assets and lacks the day-to-day activity and quality attractions of a great waterfront city. These developments will change that and bring new investment, jobs and visitors to the city for many years to come.”

The exhibition is being held at the Merseyside Maritime Museum, Albert Dock, Liverpool, L3 4AQ. This exhibition is free and open from Tuesday 21st November to Thursday 21 December.
