COPENHAGEN.- Copenhagen Photo Festival presents world-renowned British Magnum photographer Martin Parr as one of the highlights of this year's festival, opening on June 12, 2025 at The Royal Theatre in the heart of Copenhagen. This is the photographer's first major exhibition in Denmark since 2003.

With the exhibition by Martin Parr, and the relocation of the festival's center from Refshaleøen to the Royal Theatre in the center, Copenhagen Photo Festival steps onto a big stage this year.

"We are entering a new era for the festival this year, and we are incredibly proud and happy that it will be at one of Copenhagen's most spectacular, historic cultural institutions in the company of one of the most influential and groundbreaking photographers in the world over the past 50 years", says Festival Director Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen.

Copenhagen Photo Festival will present highlights from Martin Parr's extensive career with exhibitions exploring his work on leisure, tourism and beach life.

"Martin Parr is a world-renowned photographer who has inspired generations of photographers with his work and through the Martin Parr Foundation. The opportunity to share Parr's work with the public in Copenhagen and Denmark on a larger scale for the first time in 20 years is a great honor and privilege", says Festival Director Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen.

The exhibitions will take place both in the festival's new center at the Royal Theatre at Kongens Nytorv and in public urban spaces in the center of Copenhagen. During the opening days of the festival, Martin Parr will participate in various activities for both the public and professionals. The program for these activities will be announced at the end of February.

This Year’s Festival Theme Is ‘Into the Light’

The main theme of this year's festival is ‘Fremkaldelser’ / Into the Light'.

"The development process is both a creative and technical process. Ultimately, this is where the magic happens, because there is both the risk of something being lost and the chance for completely new elements to emerge. At the same time, 'Into the Light' refers to the purpose of photography: to bring everything from our global conflicts to everyday moments to light", says Festival Director Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen.

In addition to headliner Martin Parr, the festival will feature a number of solo artists and emerging talents in camera-based art and photography.

The 16th edition of Copenhagen Photo Festival takes place from June 12 to June 22, 2025.
