DENVER, CO.- The Museum of Contemporary Art | Denver (MCA) will celebrate its 10th birthday on Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18 with festivities including an exhibition and a special event to celebrate the construction of the new David Adjaye-designed building.

On November 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. MCA will open a new exhibition by New York-based artist Erwin Redl. Redl specifically designed Fade, Denver, a large-scale light installation, for MCA’s Temporary Contemporary gallery space. It is part of his Fade series that has been installed at The Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas as well as in France and Germany.

Austrian-born Redl, a Fulbright Scholar and graduate of the New York School of Visual Art, has work in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of the State of Lower Austria and in many other public and private collections.

With a background in computer art, musical composition and electronic music, Redl develops light installations that are inspired by the laws of computer code. Made from thousands of LEDs arranged in grids based on self-imposed rules, Redl’s work changes and influences the architectural environment in which it is set.

MCA’s birthday festivities will continue on Saturday, November 18, at 11 a.m., with POUR INTO THE NEW MCA. The entire community is invited to bring good luck talismans or other small items that they would like to be permanently embedded in the concrete of the Adjaye-designed MCA building on the corner of 15th & Delgany (scheduled to be complete in 2007). Coffee and breakfast treats will be served.
