MUNICH.- Haus der Kunst announced that Xue Tan, Chief Curator and Head of Programme and Exhibitions since June 2024, has been appointed to co-curate the 15th edition of Shanghai Biennale as part of the creative team. She will co-curate the internationally renowned exhibition in addition to her position at Haus der Kunst, together with Chief Curator Kitty Scott and Co-Curator Daisy Desrosiers.

Xue Tan has been Chief Curator and Head of Programme and Exhibitions at Haus der Kunst München since June 2024. She is a curator, producer, and writer from Hong Kong. Between 20152024, Tan worked as the founding Senior Curator of Tai Kwun Contemporary in Hong Kong, a leading contemporary art center in Asia, where she played a key role in the institutions conception and established a unique live and media programme. In recent years, Tan curated solo presentations of Maria Hassabi, Pan Daijing, Tino Sehgal, Francis Al˙s, and Cao Fei, and major live commissions including artists Scarlet Yu and Xavier Le Roy, Nile Koetting, Mette Edvardsen, and Eisa Jocson. Her group exhibitions focus on the subjects of ecology, feminism, gender, liveness, and technology. Tan has led curatorial projects across continents, including with the MUSEUM MMK für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt and the Center for Curatorial Studies of Bard College in New York.
The Shanghai Biennale, launched in 1996, is not only the first international biennial of contemporary art in mainland China, but also one of the most influential art events in Asia. In 2012, the Power Station of Art became the organiser and permanent venue of the Shanghai Biennale. The Biennale upholds the mission of supporting academic and cultural innovation, while continuously tracking social evolution and trends in knowledge production in a global context with an open view, and has become a large-scale platform for the international presence and exchange of contemporary art.
