ROME.- From October 12, 2024, to January 12, 2025, the Museo Carlo Bilotti Aranciera di Villa Borghese hosts the exhibition FRACTURAE, showcasing the recent works of renowned Italian artist Sandro Visca. This retrospective, organized by the Fondazione Pescarabruzzo and curated by Generoso Bruno, provides a unique opportunity to explore Visca’s six decades of artistic output, focusing on his continuous exploration of the relationship between material and form.

A Journey Through Visca’s Art

The exhibition features over one hundred works, including large canvases, installations, and an extensive selection of drawings. Through these pieces, Visca's longstanding investigation into the expressive power of material takes center stage, particularly highlighting his Teatrini and Silhouette series. In these works, Visca delves into the dynamic interplay between fragments and objects, elevating disparate elements of matter as symbols of the fragile and fleeting human condition.

Visca’s approach to art reveals a deep desire to preserve the vitality of matter, capturing the energy that emanates from its fragments. This focus on fragmentation serves as both a metaphor for the precariousness of human existence and a reflection on the transformative power of art.

A Perfect Venue for Complex Art

The Museo Carlo Bilotti, with its intricate and multi-layered architecture, provides an ideal setting for Visca’s complex and stratified works. The exhibition offers an immersive experience that allows visitors to engage with the artist’s compositions and concepts. Visca’s juxtaposition of heterogeneous elements—where fragments come together to form powerful, vibrant wholes—invites viewers to discover the often-hidden relationships between material and perception.

Highlights of the Exhibition

Among the standout pieces on display is the never-before-seen wall installation AMORE AMORE (2024), as well as STERCUS DIABOLI (2018), a work crafted from iron and third-fired ceramics. Another highlight is the large canvas FRACTURE, which Visca worked on between 2018 and 2021, reflecting his recent artistic preoccupations.

In addition to these major works, the exhibition features a number of Visca’s sculptures, including ORO (2017) and Esplodenti (2024), alongside smaller but equally significant pieces such as FRAGILE 1 and FRAGILE 2 (2015). These sculptures, displayed in the museum’s ground-floor rooms, further emphasize Visca’s artistic evolution over the last decade.

Upstairs, a collection of drawings documents Visca’s artistic journey, offering a glimpse into the creative process behind his larger works. These sketches, some developed in preparation for his paintings and sculptures, capture the intricate layering and complexity of his practice. Together, they provide an intimate look at the methodology behind Visca’s work and his constant dialogue with materiality.

Celebrating 60 Years of Artistic Creation

The exhibition FRACTURAE not only highlights Visca’s recent work but also celebrates his sixty-year career, offering a comprehensive view of his artistic evolution. The show provides a deep dive into the artist’s technique, philosophy, and expressive strategies, reflecting a lifetime of dedication to exploring the essence of form and matter.

A detailed exhibition catalog, published by Fondazione Pescarabruzzo – Gestioni Culturali Srl for the ARTE E CULTURA series, accompanies the show, offering further insights into Visca’s extensive body of work.
