NEW YORK, NY.- Christie’s will present Latin American Art, a live sale taking place October 2nd, and Latin American Art Online, open for bidding September 27th – October 8th. Across the two sales there are more than 180 lots, with a combined low estimate of over $10 Million. Works from both sales will be on view in Christie’s Rockefeller Center galleries from September 24th – October 1st.

Coinciding with Christie’s Contemporary New York early autumn sales series, the dedicated Latin American Art live auction features exceptional works of art by the foremost modern and contemporary artists from across the region. Leading the sale are three works by Fernando Botero: Cazador, estimated at $800,000-1,200,000, Reclining Woman, a bronze sculpture estimated at $500,000-700,000 and Still Life with Onions, an early still life estimated at $300,000-500,000. Also leading the sale are two important works by Leonora Carrington: Pensador (also titled Un petit déjeuner (Portrait of Inés Amor)), estimated at $600,000-800,000, and Faet Fiada (The Appearance of a Wild Beast), estimated at $500,000-700,000. Additional top lots include works by Diego Rivera, Matta, Rufino Tamayo, Agustín Cárdenas, and Tomás Saraceno.

Christie’s online-only sale of Latin American Art includes a wonderful selection of art ranging from the colonial era to present day. Featured in the sale is a robust selection of 17th and 18th century works from across Latin America, as well as important modern and contemporary works by artists such as Rogelio Polesello, Roberto Fabelo, Matta, Alicia Penalba, Emilio Sánchez. Further highlights include a selection of mixographs by Rufino Tamayo as well as important selections from the Farber Collection of Contemporary Cuban Art.

Kristen France, Head of Department, Latin American Art, comments, “This season, across our live and online sales, we are particularly excited to present a strong group of works by some of the foremost female artists of the 20th century, including Leonora Carrington, Bridget Tichenor, Olga Albizu, Olga de Amaral, María Luisa Pacheco, Linda Kohen, Consuelo Castañeda, Alicia Penalba, Flavia da Rin, Leda Catunda, Ione Saldanha, and Ana Mendieta – who we are particularly pleased to present on the heels of the very successful sale of her work in the Rosa de la Cruz Collection Evening Sale in May.”
