NEW YORK, NY.- Christie’s announced Post-War to Present, a live auction beginning the morning of October 1st at Christie’s storied Rockefeller Center saleroom. The sale is taking place over the course of three sessions, which comprise more than 290 post-war and contemporary artworks. The offerings include the most important names in the past seven decades of art history – highlighted by exemplary works by Ed Ruscha, Alex Katz, Bob Thompson, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Simone Leigh, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Ruth Asawa, Mark Grotjahn, and many more.

Leading the sale are two paintings by living legends in the art world, Abstraktes Bild by Gerhard Richter (b. 1932), and Untitled by Ed Ruscha (b. 1937). Both works carry an estimate of $2,000,000 - 3,000,000. Other major highlights include works from artists rarely seen at auction, such as Lois Dodd, Cynthia Hawkins and Faith Ringgold. Also featured in the three-session sale are exceptional collections from a range of American collectors, including Selections from the Collection of Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson, Robert Shimshak and Marion Brenner, Benjamin Buchloh, and the seminal arts patron Rosa de la Cruz.

Julian Ehrlich, Head of Post-War to Present, comments, “This season we are particularly proud to have assembled one of the largest and most comprehensive Post-War to Present sales by presale estimate. Leading the auction are two fantastic canvases by Gerhard Richter and Ed Ruscha - and we are thrilled to be foregrounding a diverse array of artists, including Ana Mendieta, Ruth Asawa, Faith Ringgold and many others. With works spanning the mid-century to today, there is truly something for every collector.”
