NEW YORK, NY.- Christies New York announced the results of its inaugural Handbags Online: The September Edition sale, which totaled $1,931,202. The auction was 99% sold by lot and 100% by value. The auction saw global participation, with 46% of bids coming from Americas, 22% Europe and 32% from Asia Pacific and Middle East.
During the sale, a new world auction record was set for a Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama, Rare, Limited Edition Yellow & Black Monogram Leather Pumpkin Bag with Silver Hardware which realized $151,200, breaking the record previously set by Christies in December 2023. This is a world auction record not only for the model, but for any Louis Vuitton handbag to sell at auction. As of today, Christie's holds the record prices for Hermès, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci handbags to sell at auction.
The top lot of the sale was a Rare, Matte White Himalaya Niloticus Crocodile Retourné Kelly 25 with Palladium Hardware, which achieved $163,800. Additional top lots include a Rare, Matte White Himalaya Niloticus Crocodile Birkin 25 with Palladium Hardware, which sold for $119,700, a Limited Edition Red & White Monogram Courrier 90 Trunk with Silver Hardware by Supreme, which achieved $81,900, and a Rare, Shiny Ombré Salvator Lizard Birkin 25 with Palladium Hardware, which made $63,000.
The sale also featured a selection of Chrome Hearts bags from The Collection of Justin Reed. A Black and Multicolor Cross Patch Backpack with Sterling Silver Hardware, sold for more than two times its low estimate, achieving a total of $37,800.
