Fourth Annual "Art & Ability" Opens



WILLIAMSBURG BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.- The Williamsburg Art & Historical Society presents the Fourth Annual "Art & Ability" with work by 13 artists with disabilities, on view through March 31, 2002. The Williamsburg Art & Historical Center has been proud to showcase the artists of the Belsky Art Society over these last four years: Belsky Art Society was founded in 1983 to advocate for and promote the work of professional artists who would broaden the cultural plurality and ethnic diversity in the art world. Women, artists of color, gay and lesbian artists, and artists with disabilities are recognized as capable of unique visuion and contribution by the society, which seeks as its mission to nurture and celebrate their creative success. "Anyone who lives art knows that science has no monopoly on the power to heal...The arts have always been altering our way of sensing and feeling...of altering the human body" -- Norman Brown.

Parcitipating artists include: Raynes E. Birkbeck, Mark Carter, Lily Dubner, Gilbert Gonzalez, Rodney Ley, John Ray, A. Santiago, Gail Shamchenko, Marlane Stokes-Gonzalez, Teriananda, Elizabeth Tranzillo, Richard J. Treitner, and Robert J. Weiss. Organized by James Pinney, Artistic Director.
