NEW YORK.- Painter, sculptor and editorial cartoonist, Richard Mock, died on July 28 at the age of 61 after a long illness. “Mr. Mock was a lifelong painter whose work ranged from a cartoonish, politically charged Neo-Expressionism through portraiture and self-portraiture to bright, paint-laden abstractions,” reported the New York Times.

Richard Mock said of his works of art; “My graphic work--the linocuts specifically--are my instant response to current events. Prints have a long history of being the art of the working man and the revolutionary. I'm interested in prints as editorial commentary. Newspapers used to publish editorial prints regularly. In recent years many have become cautious about offending people and creating controversy.”

Richard Mock studied at the University of Michigan, where he studied lithography and block printing under Emil Weddige. At the New York Studio School, he studied with Philip Guston and at the San Francisco Art Institute, he studied painting and drawing under Richard Diebenkorn.
