Roland Auctions NY presents rare re-creation of Italian fresco circa 1520 as part of multi-estates auction

GLEN COVE, NY.- Roland Auctions NY will now present their next eclectic Multi-Estates Auction on June 1st, with the spotlight on a rare 19th Century large re-creation of "The Battle of the Milvian Bridge" (Pons Milvius), an original fresco located in the Sala di Costantino of the Stanze di Raffaello (Rafael rooms) at the Vatican. The actual fresco was most likely created under Rafael's direction circa 1520.

Roland’s June 1st Multi-Estates Auction features hundreds of lots of Fine Art, Decorative Arts, 20th Century Modern, Antique & Vintage Furniture, Textiles, Silver, Gold and Silver Jewelry, Rugs, Collectibles, Asian Art and Decorative Arts, and Lighting. Previews are taking place on Thursday, June 30th & Friday, June 31st 10am - 6pm.

As has come to be expected at Roland, Fine Art will have a strong showing, with the focus on the After Giulio Romano (Italian 1499-1546) O/C, 19th Century, "The Battle of the Milvian Bridge" (Pons Milvius) depicting the clash of the Emperor Maxentius and (later Emperor) Constantine at the Tiber river, the angels above represent the vision of God's protection that came to Constantine the night before the battle. Signature not found. Oil on canvas laid on board, in a Neoclassical style giltwood frame. As mentioned above, the original fresco is located in the Sala di Costantino of the Stanze di Raffaello (Rafael rooms) at the Vatican and was most likely created under Rafael's direction circa 1520. Romano was a student of Rafael (Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino) and was active during the Renaissance with his expressive depictions in Mannerism movement. [Art: 33" x 79"; Frame: 42" x 87"]. Estimate $15,000-$20,000. Another fine piece is the Thomas Buchanan Read (American, 1822-1872) Allegorical Scene - Oil Painting, superb 19th century oil on canvas painting depicting angels, nymphs and warrior, signed "T.B. Read", in a quality gilt carved frame, bearing label from Chrysler Museum, Norfolk. [Art: 27 1/2" H x 35 1/2" W; Frame: 38" H x 45" W]. From a private collection. Estimate $15-20,000.

Coming from the same private collection, Roland is also offering a group of unique Russian Neoclassical-Style Bronze Center Tables. One example is a superb Russian Neoclassical-Style Bronze Center Table, the malachite top with recessed gallery and bead decoration above an apron with agate panels, embellished with gilt bronze figures. [31 1/4" H x 35" W x 23 1/4" D]. Estimate $8,000-$12,000, along with two more Russian Neoclassical-style gilt bronze center tables, these with the malachite and lapis lazuli tops elaborately accented with acanthus, scroll, shell, wreath and bow motifs, above a fancy pierced apron and "X" stretcher similarly ornamented. [28 1/2" H x 30 1/4" W x 20 1/8" D]. Each one is estimated at $4,000-$6,000 and are sold separately.

Highlights in Decorative Arts items include a Monumental Baroque Revival gilt bronze reliquary casket, late 19th century, the large table box in the Italian taste with exuberant garland swag and foliate scrolling details, the corners adorned with winged cherubs around glazed panels. [21" H x 22 1/4" W x 14 1/2" D]. Lid detached, lacking front glass panel; later conversion / added velvet panels; Estimate $10,000-$15,000,

A Louis XVI-style gilt bronze and porcelain garniture, overall with Classical and putti motifs around paint-decorated porcelain on a "bleu celeste" ground. [Clock: 31" H x 11 1/4" W x 11 1/4" D; Urns: 23" H x 10 1/2" W x 8" D]. Estimate $10,000-$15,000, a Monumental antique French 19th century figural clock, "Angel and Fairy", with three dials, of bronze mounted Sienna marble. [39" H x 24" W x 9 1/2" D]. Estimate $8,000-$12,000 and a pair of Louis XV-style gilt bronze and porcelain candelabra with scrolling upswept candle arms over Sevres-style painted porcelain vases, decorated with floral and allegorical scenes. [26" H x 11 1/2" Diam.]. Estimate $3,000-$5,000.

Also being offered are a large Italian Sterling Silver Vase by Grand, Large sterling silver vase made in Italy by Grand and bearing other illegible hallmarks, having very elaborate incised designs and mounts, two handles, a wide mouth and scroll feet. [21" H x 9 1/2" Diam.] Estimate $2,500-$3,500 and a Boston Line mahogany piano by Steinway & Sons, Model GP 178, serial # 115975, together with bench. [40" H x 61" W x 59 1/2" D]. Estimate $4,000-$6,000.
