ST. PETERSBURG.- Russia's Hermitage Museum called on art and antiques collectors Friday to help find more than 200 objects stolen from its Russian section. Authorities responding to an anonymous call found the wooden icon entitled "The Assembly of All Saints" in the Russian city this week, Interfax reported.
"At about noon, Moscow time, an anonymous caller told the police that one of the icons stolen from the Hermitage could be found in a garbage bin near apartment block No. 21 on Ulitsa Ryleyeva," said a source in the city's police according to UPI.
The museum, which holds one of the world's largest collections of art and artifacts, announced Monday that 221 items in storage including medieval Russian jewelry, silverware, religious works and precious stones had been stolen from its coffers.
