BERGEN.- The Bergen Kunstmuseum presents the exhibit of works of art made by Hilmar Fredriksen through August 20. Simple objects, strange remedies, theatrical happenings, mystical installations, emblematic paintings on cardboard disks: Hilmar Fredriksens art has always crossed the boundaries of artistic genres. Behind his numerous expressions there nevertheless lies a noticeable interest in ideas derived from religion, science and modern art. In recent years Fredriksen has also taken up video, where he gives new meaning to what he calls the movable picture.
Hilmar Fredriksen (b. 1953) has represented Norway in several important international biennials, yet this will be his first large retrospective exhibition in Norway.
The exhibition is a collaborative effort with Henie-Onstad Art Centre in Oslo, and will also be shown at Trondheim Art Museum and Sørlandet Art Museum.
The Bergen Art Museum is one of the largest art museums in Scandinavia, and offers magnificent art from the 15th century to contemporary art in three buildings along the Lille Lungegårdsvann. Lysverket opened entirely in November and offers art from the oldest part of our collection, Russian and greek icons from the 15th century to contemporary art, displayed over three floors. The next door building, the Rasmus Meyer Collection, display many of Edvard Munch masterpieces, as well as works by the leading representatives for Norwegian art in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Stenersen Collection is at the moment displayed in an exhibition of the 20th century art in Lysverket, while the entire Stenersen building is being used for our temporary exhibitions.
