BUDAPEST, HUNGARY.- National Treasures of Germany - From Luther to the Bauhaus in the Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest, on view through October 15, 2006. 25 july 15 october 2006. In cooperation with the Conference of National Cultural Institutions (Konferenz Nationaler Kultureinrichtung KNK), the Hungarian National Gallery (Magyar Nemzeti Galéria) presents the exhibition National Treasures of Germany. From Luther to the Bauhaus on the Castle Hill (Várhegy) from 25 July 2006. As part of the German-Hungarian Cultural Year, 25 museums and collections from Germany will display their most cherished treasures from the realms of art, nature and the sciences in the newly-opened A-Wing of the National Gallery in Budapest.
Twenty-three museums, collections and archives of international status located in the new federal states of Germany have joined together to form the Konferenz Nationaler Kultureinrichtungen KNK (Conference of National Cultural Institutions). The foundation of this organisation on 1 March 2002 at the Franckesche Stiftungen zu Halle came about as a result of the Blaubuch (Blue Book), a survey compiled on the initiative of the Federal Government Commissioner for Cultural and Media Affairs, whose department supports various KNK projects. A major objective of the organization is to act jointly to preserve the cultural heritage and to ensure that the significance of the historic locations and collections of the KNK is firmly established in public awareness. The Schloss Friedenstein Gotha Foundation and the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Berlin State Museums Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) are collaborating with KNK for this exhibition. The Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Dresden State Art Collections) have assumed the management of the project.
