LONDON.- Swimming in rivers of chocolate, moving objects with their minds and taking up residence in stone fruits, children around the globe for decades have immersed themselves in the magical worlds of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda and James and the Giant Peach, all dreamed up by the one and only Roald Dahl (1916-1990). With a book of Marvellously Revolting Recipes inspired by Dahl’s works, soon to be published by Puffin, Bonhams marks the occasion with a special auction entitled Marvellously Revolting Recipes: Works Sold to Benefit Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. The online sale will run from 11-20 October, with estimates ranging from £50-5,000.

The sale features a collection of illustrations from the forthcoming recipe book due to be published on 28th September, with many of the illustrators donating their original artwork for the book to be sold in Bonhams’ special charity auction. Proceeds of the sale will benefit Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, which provides specialist nurses and support for children and families living with some of the most serious and complex health conditions in the UK. Roald Dahl Nurses are a vital lifeline to the whole family, co-ordinating care and providing access to high quality emotional support.

Highlights of the sale include six illustrations by Sir Quentin Blake, who worked closely with Dahl, creating the images for some of Dahl’s most iconic works, including Matilda and The BFG. Lots from the sale, including Blake’s Illustration for Hot Noodles Made from Poodles on a Slice of Garden Hose from James and the Giant Peach (estimate: £1,500-2,000) along with his Illustration for The Enormous Crocodile from The Enormous Crocodile (estimate: £1,000-1,500) retrace this rich relationship that shaped the childhoods of many.

Sir Quentin Blake, co-president of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, commented: “It was marvellous creating the drawings for this wonderful book, but the benefits from their proceeds is really, really marvellous.”

Commenting on the book, Dame Joanna Lumley, a patron of the Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, said “Aunt Spiker would hate it: but I adore this Marvellously subversive cookbook, filled with inspiring pictures and delicious recipes. The Fried Snowballs would make her shriek with rage. Aprons on, people! There are treats inside for every occasion.”

Other highlights of the sale include:

• Abe Odedina (Nigerian, born 1960), Two Illustrations for Minced Doodlebugs from James and the Giant Peach, acrylic on panel. Estimate: £3,000-5,000

• Emily Carew Woodard (British, born 1984), Illustration for Fizzwinkles from The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me, watercolour, pen and ink, gouache and pencil on paper. Estimate: £500-700

• Mini Grey (British, born 1965), Illustration for Vita Wonk from Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, watercolour, coloured pencil, ink and collage on printed base. Estimate: £300-500
