BOGOTA, COLOMBIA.- The National Museum of Colombia presents the exhibition "Masterpieces of European Painting. Rau Collection" at the Coin House of the Bank of the Republic, on view through September 15, 2002. The exhibition includes 105 masterpieces from the collection of the late German doctor Gustav Rau, considered the second best private collection in Europe, after the Thyssen-Bornemisza. The exhibition presents six centuries of western art, beginning with the Italian Renaissance, until the Expressionisnm of the 20th century. The collection was donated by Dr. Gustav Rau to the Unicef Cologne to honor the committment of Dr. Rau with children. Part of the money raised at the exhibition will be used at the Rehabilitation Center of Colombia that works to help children that are victims of personal mines.
