TROY.- Kmart Corporation is opening the vault containing over 1000 works of fine art to the public for the first time ever. Along with this stunning art collection, executive furniture will be displayed. While most pieces of art are available for immediate purchase, a limited number of high-end pieces will be sold through a bid process.
The gallery contains a wide variety of works such as oils, watercolors, photography, posters, prints, tapestries, and sculptures and even a 15th- Century Chinese Ming Dynasty watercolor on silk. Works of art by artists such as Vasarely, Deperthes, Leger, Loewy, Alvar, Agam, Trova, Bolotowsky, Mayhew, Summers and Zavaro, to name a few, are among the many artists that are featured. There is also a rare Picasso tapestry on display that will be sold on a bid process. In addition, the Science and Technology room will be featuring a work by Alan Bean autographed by over 20 of our United States astronauts. The Kmart memorabilia room is packed with history and collectibles dating back to the turn of the century.
The gallery will have six showings per month from June through September. Each month will feature a different style or work. The June schedule, featuring oils and watercolors, will be held on:
Friday, June 23rd - 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Saturday, June 24th - 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Sunday, June 25th - 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
July will feature Posters and Prints; August will feature Photography; and September will feature Tapestry, Sculptures and Executive Furniture.
All showings will be held on the 4th floor executive offices of the former Kmart Headquarters, located at 3100 West Big Beaver Road in Troy.
