WASHINGTON, DC.- Clark Construction Group, LLC, received the National Building Museum’s 2006 Honor Award on at a black-tie celebration attended by more than 1,100 cultural, corporate, political, and building industry leaders.

The Museum’s Honor Award recognizes outstanding individuals and companies who have made significant contributions in the fields of architecture, planning, construction, and building. Clark Construction Group is the 20th recipient and was honored for its work shaping the commercial, residential, public, and infrastructure sectors of America’s cities while upholding the highest standards of safety, craftsmanship, and technical excellence. Clark was also applauded for its longstanding commitment to community service.

“It is an honor to receive this recognition from the National Building Museum,” said Peter C. Forster, chief executive officer of Clark. “Clark has had the privilege to collaborate with so many partners in the building industry and the communities in which we work. Celebrating this Award with our colleagues is a tremendous way to mark the company’s first 100 years in business.”

This year’s Honor Award is the most successful in its 20-year history, hosting the most guests and raising more than $1.2 million for Museum exhibitions and education programs. Guests in attendance included Abe Pollin and executives from Chevy Chase Bank, The JBG Companies, and The Tower Companies. In support of Clark’s newest project constructing Washington, DC’s Major League Ballpark, stadium architects Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum (HOK) and National owners Lerner Enterprises were at the Award gala.

The evening was marked with tributes from David Childs, FAIA, partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill; Dr. C.D. “Dan” Mote, Jr., president of The University of Maryland, College Park; and Oliver T. Carr, Jr., chairman of The Oliver Carr Company.

“In the course of my career, I and my firm have had the good fortune to work with Clark Construction Group on projects which, in aggregate, equal the size of the city of Cincinnati. Clark Construction is that rare thing — a construction firm committed to the creation of excellence in architecture,” said David Childs. Carr added, “I'm honored to be a part of this occasion as a long-standing friend of the honoree Jim Clark."

During the Award presentation, the National Building Museum’s Chair of the Board of Trustees Carolyn Brody applauded Clark’s commitment to outstanding project management and craftsmanship while being a model for the industry. “Clark Construction exemplifies that leadership in building is realized through a deep commitment to innovation, excellence, and involvement. For a century, Clark has made remarkable contributions to our community and around the nation,” she said.
