Susana Solano: "Bura III".

OSLO, NORWAY.-The National Gallery presents Don Quixote. Spanish Contemporary Art, on view through August 13, 2006. Few literary works have inspired as many artists as the novel "Don Quixote" written by the Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes. This exhibition celebrates the 400th anniversary of the book. Shown here are works produced by 20 of Spain's most recognized contemporary artists, representing different generations, techniques and styles. Each has been invited to create a new work directly inspired by Cervante's famous novel.
This is the ironic story about the nobleman Don Quixote who reads so many novels of chivalry he loses his sense of reality. Riding on his old horse Rocinante, and with his earthy squire Sancho Panza by his side, he goes out into the world to fight for what is right and good.
In his fantasy, illusions are mistaken for actual fact. Windmills for instance, are imagined to be angry giants, and a simple herd of sheep is transformed into a whole army of warriors.
Participating artists: Andreu Alfaro, Eduardo Arroyo, Rafael Canogar, Martín Chirino, Albert Corazón, Susy Gómez, Cristina Iglesias, Carmen Laffón, Francisco Leiro, Eva Lootz, Julio López Hernández, Blanca Muñoz, Juan Navarro Baldeweg, Míquel Navarro, Carlos Pazos, Javier Pérez, Jaume Plensa, José María Sicilia, Susana Solano, Darío Villalba. The exhibition was curated by Francisco Calvo Seraller and Maria Luisa Martin de Argila.
