DENVER, COLORADO.- Beat the summer heat and explore the world of photography with An American Century of Photography: The Hallmark Photographic Collection on display from June 29 through September 29, 2002. The exhibition showcases more than 240 photographs taken by 200 photographers over the last 120 years and documents major social and technological shifts that have helped shape our nation.



Don’t miss New Classics, the best little show of today’s big American Indian artists, on display in the Museum’s third floor Native Arts galleries. The exhibition features some of the greatest contemporary pieces from the Museum’s American Indian collections including paintings, sculptures, textiles and pottery from the thriving Native American art scene. New Classics celebrates the American Indian culture through a variety of stunning pieces that explore American Indian artistry in a less ’traditional’ manner.



July 21 is the last chance to visit the West Point/Points West exhibition on the Museum’s seventh floor. Photographers and painters from West Point Military Academy played a major role in the exploration, mapping and depiction of the western frontier. From these expeditions, West Point artists created vivid images of life on the Great Plains and magnificent depictions of the western landscape. The exhibition features paintings, photographs, drawings, prints and books illustrating western landscapes during the heyday of exploration of the western frontier and boasts the first edition of an annual publication titled Western Passages created by the Museum’s Institute of Western American Art.
