BASEL.-The «Art Unlimited» exhibition presents over 70 exciting art projects as can be seen and purchased at no other art fair in the world. Artists from 26 countries will be taking part. The roster of participants in what is probably this summer's most prestigious exhibition of contemporary art reads like a Who's Who of the cutting-edge international art scene. For the second time there will be a special presentation of artists' books in the «Art Unlimited» hall. The «Artists' Books» exhibition presents a selection of legendary artists' books from the 1970s. The «Art Lobby» communication forum offers the public opportunities to meet artists, curators, and collectors personally. «Art Unlimited» is generously supported by UBS.
Thanks to the unique interaction of artists, galleries, the Art Basel Committee, the curator, the Show Management, and Art Basel's technical team, «Art Unlimited» is an annual exhibition of contemporary art that draws worldwide attention, complementing the wide array of art on display at the international art show and offering visitors the chance to make exciting dis-coveries. Out of a record number of over 200 applications sub-mitted, the Art Basel Committee has chosen over 70 projects for this year's edition of «Art Unlimited». The exhibition concept has once again been devised by the experienced Geneva curator Simon Lamunière.
«Art Unlimited» offers artists and galleries a platform for works that are beyond the scope of exhibition booths at art fairs, and frequently even of galleries, museums, and other traditional exhibition venues. 12,000 square meters of Hall 1 play host to outsize sculptures, video projections, installations, wall paintings, photographic series, and performance art. The «Art Unlimited» exhibition explodes the traditional concept of individual gallery booths and overcomes restrictions that frequently constrain art: restrictions imposed by space, maximum weight, lighting, acoustics, safety, and other technical considerations, but also temporal and conceptual limitations – both artistic and curatorial. The «Art Unlimited» platform is generously supported by Art Basel and UBS, who, by this means, also help galleries and their artists to overcome financial limitations for extraordinary art projects.
