Come Together at Art. Music. Performance

VANCOUVER, BC.-FUSE will ignite at the Vancouver Art Gallery for the third consecutive month on Friday, September 23. The art/music/performance event is presented by RBC. The revelry begins at 6 p.m. in the Gallery Forecourt with DJ Laura Piasta. Every half-hour between 6:30-10:30, the “Magical Mystery Tour” will take FUSE-goers on a multi-floor, behind-the-scenes ride as the inside story of exhibition creation is revealed. Included is a bold descent into the depths of the historic building’s basement, where everything from false walls to works of art are stored and preserved. Beginning at 7:00, Gallery visitors can join in the creation of original art works by “feeding” drawings into “The Puffer Division Drawing Machine” for Vancouver artists to complete collaboratively and filter through the machine’s outbox. The drawings will be displayed in the Gallery’s Rotunda for the evening and made available for FUSE guests to take home. Sneak preview tours of the Gallery’s Classified Materials: Accumulations, Archives, Artists exhibition, slated to open on October 15, also begin at 7:00. Classified Materials explores how forty-four internationally-renowned contemporary artists assemble, question, challenge and create new ways of ordering things, images and thoughts.

From a giant quilt crocheted from video tape, to works of art incorporating dead herring, live crickets and melting ice, Gallery Exhibitions Coordinator Bruce Weidrick and Public Programs Director Cheryl Mezaros reveal tall exhibition-making tales in If These Walls Could Talk. The off-the-wall presentations will take place in the Highwall West Gallery at 7, 8 and 9 p.m.

FUSE tickets are $10 per person, $5 off the regular adult admission price, with food and drinks available in The Gallery Café. Members of the Vancouver Art Gallery receive free FUSE admission.
