GHENT.- Brian Harte works primarily as a painter, creating stark and cinematic images of domestic scenes. Harte balances energetic painterly abstraction with tightly composed interiors, taking conceptual cues from diverse cultural figures as Franz Kafka, Philip Guston, The Brothers Quay, and Albert Oehlen. One of the key features of Brian Hartes paintings is his bold use of color and the undetermined state of the depicted figures, midway between sketchy and finished. The viewers eye travels through the richly detailed and chaotic spaces on the large canvases, slowly finding familiar elements that may not be noticed at first glance. In his work, Harte explores the relationship between abstraction and figuration, between the sketchy and the finished, a process that resonates with the tradition of British painting.

SYNTHESIS / Ria Bosman
Ria Bosman is fascinated by colour and matter. Her colourful, abstract artwork includes dozens of sketch- and workbooks, works on paper, textile paintings, tile and object paintings, and monumental leather and textile structures. Characteristic are the intense colours and the minimal, geometric design, rooted in a refined use of colour, a great sensitivity to materials, and a strong technical intuition. Ria Bosmans pure, colourful visual language is rooted in the artists inner (experiential) world, which she words using terms such as peace, quiet, harmony, balance, connection, and intense experience. What drives her research are therefore not purely formal-analytical thought processes, but rather a thorough aesthetic and a consistent attitude towards lifea so-called state of mind. Her work aims to evoke a spiritual experience and emotions. She often picks shades intuitivelyher selection is related to whats on her mind, and the topics that require further rearranging and attention.
Ria Bosman (BE, 1956) lives and works in Ghent (BE). 'SYNTHESIS' is Bosman's third solo exhibition at the gallery.
