DENVER.-Join in the fun for the whole family at the Denver Art Museum's 16th annual Friendship Powwow on Saturday, September 10, 2005. This free celebration of American Indian cultures begins with the popular gourd dance at 10 a.m., followed by the spectacular grand entry of dancers at noon. The afternoon includes dance competitions featuring men, women, and children from various tribes. Families can enjoy art-making activities, a game of musical chairs, American Indian food, handmade crafts, and more. Additionally at the Friendship Powwow, the Museum's new outdoor sculpture Wheel, by Cheyenne/Arapaho artist HOCK E AYE VI Edgar Heap of Birds, will be celebrated. Installed outside of the Museum just north of the main entrance this past June, Wheel features 10 red forked trees screen-printed with text and symbols related to American Indian life in Colorado. The Powwow will take place on Acoma Plaza, between the Museum and the Denver Public Library, off 14th Avenue Parkway just south of Civic Center Park.
