SAN FRANCISCO, CA.- The Legion of Honor presents Manuel Neri: Artists’ Books/The Collaborative Process, on view through October 23, 2005. Manuel Neri approached the challenges and satisfactions of creating artists’ books later in his career. Over the last 14 years, however, Neri has collaborated on four original and intriguing artists’ books. In forming an alliance with a poet, a publisher, and a printer, Neri has been compelled to mark his artistic territory with each project. For him, that meant that his direct personal touch had to be present in each volume. As a masterful sculptor and draftsman, Neri’s hallmark has always been an emphasis on spontaneity, expression, and intuitive creativity, all of which are present in the books on view in this exhibition.
