Four prizes are awarded: a prize of 25.000 , the Crowet Prize, and three of 12500, the Langui Prize, the Palais des Beaux-Arts Prize and the ING Prize.
The Six Winners in 2005:
Kris Vleeschouwer is Belgian. He was born in Mortsel in 1972. As an artist, I constantly try to reach the limits between what is possible and what is impossible, he says. In an innovating manner his project fuses together the world of art and that of corporations, through an internet connection and a very elaborate technical system. The result is an innovating mental universe for all of those who participate.
Carlos Aires is Spanish. He was born in 1974 in Ronda. His work looks into subjects such as education, power, sexuality, morale, cultural diversity, traditions, mortality, politics and human rights. He believes that everything we believe to be history, our history, looses its objectivity and its credibility. His work affirms nothing, it questions.
Simona Denicolai is Italian. She was born in Milano in 1972. Ivo Provost is Belgian. He was born in Diksmuide in 1974. They believe the difference between real and false is not important. Everything is real or false, as long as we believe it and assume it. We evolve in a context in which the image we have imagined is built. Their project touches on the theme of the imagination.
Olivier Foulon is Belgian. He was born in 1976 in Anderlecht. He offers deep thinking on the museum and on cultural history in general. He revisits and interprets defined images as works of art. Along his visits he makes drawings and sketches, then enlarges them and puts them in relation with enlarged copies of original works.
Sébastien Reuzé is French. He was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1970. He takes photographs of what he sees in the street and leads us to look at the city in a different manner, by observing details that apparently are not very important, and expressions of moods. There is no staging nor technical manipulation in his work.
Cindy Wright is Belgian. She was born in Herentals in 1972. She paints monumental portraits of certain visitors in her workshop and confronts these radical works with very enlarged details of pieces of meat, like sausages. Her pictorial art belongs to the domain of realism the pictorial medium is present in a very tangible manner.
