It's all American!! at Hunter Museum of American Art

CHATTANOOGA, TN.- What better way to celebrate America’s birthday than by viewing American art and reliving some of the great moments in American history? You can do both, and more, at the Hunter Museum of American Art which will be open all weekend and on Monday, July 4th from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm.

See George Washington’s portrait by Rembrandt Peale and contrast it with Andy Warhol’s Jimmy Carter. Their pictures are as different as their presidencies. Enjoy the red, white and blue of Pregnant Whale by Alexander Calder outside on our sculpture garden. Visit our Early American Symbols gallery and experience early American history. Look at paintings depicting things that people do on the 4th with works like March by the Sea, Milton Avery; Love on the Beach, Philip Evergood; and Woman in Pink on a Beach, Robert Henri.

While you are listening to music, come see works of art that remind you of your favorite tunes. While you are picnicking, come see a woman enjoying tea in a garden. While you are watching the fireworks lit up against our mountains and river, come see the beautiful paintings of American mountains and streams. While you are enjoying all of the great things that Chattanooga's downtown has to offer, come and see art inspired by our great American cities. It’s a great weekend to enjoy American Art.

As always for people visiting with families you can purchase an Art Explorers pack at the front desk, filled with fun activities and facts for children of all ages.

Tours at Two, both Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 pm, will be It’s all American! Meet at the visitor’s service desk. There will be a drop in studio class on Sunday from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.

The Hunter Museum of American Art is located at 10 Bluff View in Chattanooga. The Museum is open every day until 5:00 pm, Thursday’s until 9:00pm. For more information the public may call the Museum at (423) 267-0968, or visit the website at www.huntermuseum.org.
