WINTERTHUR.- Leslie Greene Bowman, Director and CEO of Winterthur, An American Country Estate, today announced the appointment of three new professionals to the estates senior management team.
John Thomas Savage, Senior Vice President and Director of Sothebys Institute of Art in New York, has been named to the newly-created position of Deputy Director for Museum Affairs, which will include oversight of the institutions Collections, Public Programs, and Communications divisions. Nikki Andersen, currently Director of Research and Evaluation at The Childrens Museum of Indianapolis, will join Winterthur as Director of Public Programs, and Chris Strand, Director of Green Spring Gardens Park in Fairfax County, Virginia, has been named Director of the Garden and Estate.
The addition of these seasoned professionals will contribute greatly to Winterthurs success in expanding its audiences, currently the highest priority in our strategic plan, said Bowman. Tom Savage possesses a keen understanding of how to create and promote exciting and relevant programs for todays audiences. In addition, his involvement in The Attingham Summer School on the British Country House, The Victorian Society Summer School in London, and the British-based Furniture History Society has enriched his lifelong passion for country estates and extraordinary collections.
Nikki Andersen is coming to us from one of the foremost museums of its genre, The Childrens Museum of Indianapolis. We look forward to the tremendous contributions she will make in the areas of exhibition development, education and interpretation, and audience evaluation and research.
We are also delighted to welcome Chris Strand back to the Brandywine Valley, she added. Chris received his Master of Science in Public Horticulture Administration from the University of Delawares Longwood Program and will be a sensitive and knowledgeable steward of the garden created by Henry Francis du Pont.
