ANDOVER, MA.-The Addison Gallery presents Art and Craft, on view through July 31, 2005. Art and Craft acknowledges the integral relationship between hand and mind, necessity and idea, maker and product that is embodied in the decorative arts. Finding artistic expression/articulation within the parameters of the useful, makers can transform the useful object into a transcending manifestation of design.
Art and Craft allows the Addison to share a little-recognized part of the museum's permanent collection with our audiences. Treasures of American art and craft will be installed in conversation with a selection of great paintings and sculptures also owned by the Addison .
This exhibition was generously supported by the Sidney R. Knafel Exhibition Fund.
